r-PET

The use of recycled PET is part of our high quality packaging solutions and contributes to circularity and a cleaner environment.

‘r-PET’ is ‘recycled PET’ and it can be used for a wide variety of applications including food packaging. Using r-PET flakes or pellets to create new packaging solutions is a way of achieving circularity in material usage and contributes to a cleaner environment.

Through our innovative Poly Recycling division we are supplying high quality r-PET solutions to customers in ever-increasing quantities. Competitively priced, they give you the performance you need and the sustainability credentials your customers demand – all at a price point you can afford.

Poly Recycling: the r-PET experts

Our Poly Recycling division has been reprocessing PET beverage containers to create high-quality r-PET (sometimes called ‘PolyPET’) flakes since 1993.

To achieve the high degree of purity required requires a technologically complex treatment carried out in multiple stages. Poly Recycling uses automatic detectors and advanced systems to sort and separate incoming post-consumer PET. And it has the know-how to produce various grades of r-PET suitable for different applications.

In addition to products meeting standard quality specifications we can also develop tailor made solutions on request. Colour, clarity , viscosity and bulk density can all be adjusted to meet your precise specifications.

r-PET applications

Poly Recycling r-PET is used for the production of preforms, bottles, fibres, films and strapping as well as for engineering compounds. Fibre applications include fleece jackets, sleeping bags and pillow fillings or sports shoes. Typical applications for films are blister packs, chocolate trays and flower packaging. Other applications include shampoo and beverage bottles. Preforms and bottles are produced to food grade standards thanks to advanced downstream processing.

r-PET flakes and pellets

We supply both r-PET flakes and r-PET pellets. Flakes are produced to very high degrees of purity in order to maintain the functionality and strength of the final products. Pellets, which are easier to transport and process, are created from further rounds of processing. Flakes are dried at 130–180°C before being extruded, melted, pressed and formed into spaghetti strands. These are briefly cooled and then ground into pellet form. The pellets’ properties can be further improved by crystallising and heating them in a process called solid state condensation (SSP).

Please let us know tell us your precise requirements and count on us to have the technical know-how and state-of-the-art facilities to meet them.
